I don't know who Jerry Vale is, either. However, after a trip to Wikipedia, I know that he's some old guy who sings.

Wow - I just tried to look up who I share a birthday with, and I only know of two of the folks listed:
John Ritter and Anne Bancroft.

Btw, Jerry Vale was asinger in the 40's and 50's I believe. Abig star back then.

Jerry Vale was VERY big in the 50s and early 60s (when most of you guys weren't even a glint in your parents' eyes!) He was a 'crooner', much like Tony Bennett, Frank Sinatra, Perry Como. All four were Italian singers with beautiful voices. He was very handsome, too - looked a lot like Jerry Ohrbach (Law and Order, Dr. Houseman in Dirty Dancing), with distinguished silver streaks in his hair. We had a few of his albums (yes, Motherdear grew up in the Vinyl Age)and used to play them on the stereo and sing along. He had a very strong baritone voice, more operatic-sounding than Frank, less mellow than Perry, very much on a par with Tony Bennett. (Who STILL has it at almost 90!) So that, kids, is your hands-on history lesson in music from Motherdear. He was pretty good...but I guess you had to be there! (I think his real last name was Valentino.)
